Record high temperatures have been reached in Death Valley National Park in Californian on Sunday, as verified by the US National Weather Service.

Temperatures reached a staggering 54.4 degrees Celcius, which is the highest temperature that has been recorded since 1913.

The highest temperature in history was 56.6 degrees Celcius, also in Death Valley.

Brandi Stewart, an employee at Death Valley National Park, told the BBC "When you walk outside it's like being hit in the face with a bunch of hairdryers."

The heatwave in America’s west coast has caused two days of blackouts following a malfunction at power plant the over the weekend.
